Claire’s: The Holey Land of Flash

Shepherd, Kessler and Carsen at Claire's

Well one things is for sure, I was not expecting both of my girls to grow up so fast this summer! Carsen, who turned 7 years old a few days ago, has wanted to get her ears pierced since forever and I promised her she could as long as her grandmother, Nuganga, said yes.

Well, ‘Yes‘ came out faster than I expected and so we were off to Claire’s, yes that one, to get both their ears pierced! If you are not privey yet or blessed with a boys-only household, Claire’sis a haven – oh excuse me, I have just been corrected by Carsen – it is Heaven filled with accessories like necklaces, earrings, purses, keychains, fake hair and sprinkle spray, head bands, Budgy animals and loads of jewelry stands and boxes to properly store all of the junk you have just purchased!

Like crossing the threshold of Oz, both Shepherd and Carsen, along with their cousin Kessler, Ooed and awed at the latest trends flashing on the walls and t-stands! We walked past and saw the little stall area where it all happens – the chair, the piercing gun, the cleaning solutions, the swabs, everything. I signed Carsen up and soon Shepherd piped up said she wanted to get some too.

Daddy and his girls before the big punch!

It was all too overwhelming that both my girls were going under the needle! My own hands started to sweat, I then realised I was feeling faint like, having to accept this little first! You know, the first time they ate apple sauce, the first time they walked, the little firsts we all write down in their baby books. I had tears in my eyes and so did my husband, Jeff. His little girls were growing up!

Birthday Girl going first!

Carsen went first. She climbed into the chair and listened intently to the technician with cleaning and care instructions, ‘We don’t want to do this again, now do we?‘ she asked ‘So, pay close attention.‘ She

glanced and focused on the swabs and squeaked when she saw all of the colours of her first pair of earrings and what better colour to start with than Green! Shepherd chose her birth stone – diamond – however, offered in Cubic Zarconia – thank goodness!!!

Moments before she turns into big girl!

After marking each earlobe with the correct position, Stephanie, the technician, and her co-worker, Kirsten, got on either side of my precious Carsen, counted down, 3…2…1…then click, it was done! She wasn’t my baby anymore! Her precious virgin earlobes had these adorable Green CZ sparklers! Happy Birthday Big C!

Shepherd had the same experience and was an even bigger girl with absolutely no teddybear in sight! Big brave girl took the pinch and punch like a soldier and was so excited about crossing this line! She had a great repor with Stephanie listening and paying attention to her own care instructions. But one thing is for sure, a picture can tell a thousand words!

Here we go!

And I would like to say the employees at Claire’s in Austin were so professional and sensitive to my girls I would highly recommend them!
